NHS App

The NHS App does a lot more than you may think

If you’re a patient at our practice aged 16 or over, you can use the NHS App. It helps you to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet for Apple (iOS) and Android devices.

Children aged 13-15 should first speak to the practice if they want to have access to the NHS App.

You can even access your NHS account on your computer without the NHS App.

It doesn’t replace existing services. You can still contact us in the usual ways. But, once you have verified your identity in the App, you will have easy, 24/7 access to a growing range of health services and information.

Help someone else

You can apply to access the health records, appointments and prescriptions of people you care for (including children). This is called “proxy access”. You can also ask for another person you trust to help you. Both the patient and the proxy must be New Road Surgery patients to use the NHS App to do this.

If you already use Patient Access you can continue to use it. But the NHS App will give you easy and secure access on your smartphone, tablet or your computer.

If you have any problems using the NHS App, you can select ‘help’ in the top right-hand corner of the app. Or visit nhs.uk/helpmeapp.

Short How-To videos from the NHS App team

This quick start video shows the main features and sections of the NHS App.

Setting up your NHS App to receive notifications. It helps us send you messages and reduces NHS costs. If you miss reading the message in the App, we’ll send a text message as well.

Ordering prescriptions is best done using the NHS App. It allows you to see the progress of your request.

Always try to request your medication in the 7 days before you run out. If you’re ordering early, please let us know why so we don’t reject the request.

If the medicine you need isn’t listed, you can request it from the App.

Press Services and then “Contact the practice about an admin problem“. You can fill in the admin issue form on your phone. It will also fill in your details so it’s even faster to use the NHS App. The admin issue form is also available on our website.

You’ll be able to see all current medical problems and your list of repeat medication. You’ll also be able to see test results once a GP has approved them. All consultations after November 2023 are available in the App.

Use the “Health problem” form to ask for medical advice. This can be about new or ongoing symptoms, to ask questions about your medication or ask for a non-urgent appointment.

You can send us a message about sick/fit notes or requesting letters. Also use it to ask questions about test results or medication not on your repeat prescription list and other admin issues.

When we’re closed, or have high demand, you may want to use NHS 111 for help and advice.

The person helping must register as a proxy user first. Both the patient and the proxy must be New Road Surgery patients to use the NHS App to do this. You can’t use the NHS App if the proxy is a patient at another practice.

New Road Surgery uses Accessibility Checker to monitor our website's accessibility.
