What is a boundary change?

A boundary change is a change to the geographical catchment area of a practice

What will change for patients

For existing patients, nothing changes.  Registered patients who are within the existing practice area and subsequently fall outside of the proposed area will NOT be removed from our list.  We currently have around 360 patients residing in affected areas.

It does mean we won’t accept any new registrations from people in these areas. This would also prevent us from registering family members of existing patients that are not currently registered with us.

What will change for the surgery.

A reduction in the geographical catchment area which is currently disproportionate to the size of the practice.

Why the change

New Road Surgery is asking for this boundary change to protect and safeguard both current and future patient services. Attempting to manage such a large catchment area that is already covered by numerous other doctors’ surgeries threatens our ability to offer the full services our patients require. This is especially true as we expect to grow the number of patients registering with us from new developments in the area.

Outline plan for new applications from these postcodes.

Patients within the area of Cassiobury estate and Watford have the choice of several practices including Garston Medical Centre (GMC) who are linked to our practice through our primary care network (PCN) agreement. We have made sure that there will be no gaps in the provision of service to patients in these postcode areas. As a minimum at least one practice, in this instance GMC, is able take any additional patients that may need to register with them. We also work closely with other Watford practices which are listed on the map below.

Patients living in Chorleywood and surrounding areas are covered by Chorleywood Health Centre and Gade Surgery which currently have an open list. This means anyone within their catchment area is welcome to register.
